How to get Admission?

Government of Gujarat State has started Centralized Entrance Test for admission to post graduate Master of Business Administration program (MBA) for all Universities and their affiliated Institutions which run AICTE approved Programs in Gujarat State .

The above Centralized Entrance Test will be known as Gujarat Centralized Entrance Test (GCET) and will be conducted by MBA Centralized Entrance Committee constituted by Gujarat University .

The prime objective of conducting centralized test and admission to MBA is to bring uniformity and to avoid duplication of efforts so as to facilitate the students and their parents.
Relevant details and guidelines about GCET are as below.

  • Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan
  • Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar
  • Saurashtra University, Rajkot

Administration of GCET

It will be mandatory for all Universities in Gujarat to give admission to the post graduate MBA Course only to the candidates who have appeared in Gujarat Common Entrance Test. Thus, candidates aspiring to get admission to MBA in any of the above mention Universities will be compulsorily required to appear for GCET.

GCET-2009 Committee

The Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) will be conducted under the direction of a Committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellors of the Universities in accordance with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi guidelines. The Commissioner of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat is the Convener of this Committee.

Allocation of Seats
  1. Allocation of all seats in Government and grant-in-aid institutions and state quota seats in private unaided institutes shall be done by the GCET Cell, 2009 of Gujarat University.
  2. The management quota for private unaided institutions shall be 25% of their sanctioned intake. The admissions to these management quota seats shall be made by the managements of the private unaided institutions based on the principles of common merit list, inter se merit, transparency and any other guidelines issued by the Fee & Admission Committee for Professional Courses (Higher & Technical Education).
  3. However, if some private unaided institutions want to have their management quota seats, fully or partially, to be filled by the GCET Cell, the same will be done on request.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Candidates graduated from a University recognised and located in Gujarat State are eligible to appear for GCET.
  2. Candidates who have graduated in a 3-year course from a University outside Gujarat State but have passed Std. XII or its equivalent examination from a recognised school located in Gujarat State are also eligible to appear for GCET.
  3. Candidates must have scored minimum of 50% marks in greduation. In case of SC/ST candidates, 5% relaxation is given as per rules. 50% (45% in case of SC/ST candidates) marks will be computed on the basis of GRAND TOTAL (aggregate) in final year mark sheet issued by the concerned University. (The minimum marks of 50% or 45% given above should be without rounding off and grace marks will be excluded for the purpose).
  4. A candidate who has appeared at the final year (Bechlor's Degree) examination of any University recognised by the association of Indian Universities (Subject to condition 1 to 3 ) shall be treated as provisionally eligible for GCET.
  5. For wards of Kashmiri Migrants, one supernumerary seat will be allotted in each institution where the seats are filled by the GCET Committee, based on a separate merit list prepared for the purpose. In their case, the eligibility conditions mentioned at 1 and 2 will not be applicable.
  6. If the graduation result is in the form of grade, then an equivalence certificate showing that the candidate has obtained 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) should be produced at the time of application.

Reservation of Seats

Reservation shall be provided for as under (Subject to change based on overnment policy):
Reservation of seats for different categories shall be as per the policy of the State Government as stated hereunder:
1 Scheduled Caste (SC) 7 %
2 Scheduled Tribes (ST) 15 %
3 Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) 27 % *
*(Including a widow candidate or orphan candidate belonging to any caste applying with relevant certificates issued by competent authority)

Selection Procedure

The candidates are required to submit their Application Forms complete in all respects to the offices mentioned for sale of applications before the expiry of the last hour and date prescribed. THE CANDIDATE IS REQUESTED TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FORM AT THE CENTRE WHERE HE/SHE HAS OPTED TO APPEAR.
The candidates will have option to choose the center for Written Test for GCET/MBA from amongst the available centers.
The Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET / MBA) will be conducted on the date and time prescribed in the form.
A candidate will have to produce the following original documents with certified copy before presenting himself/herself for counseling and admission at the final stage.

Selection Process

    For admission to MBA, determination of merit will be based solely on the performance in the entrance test.
    The logic for removing ties in the scores will be as under:

    1. Higher score in the written test
    2. Higher Marks in PI
    3. Higher Marks in GD
    4. Higher marks (total) in XIIth Std.
    5. Higher marks (total) in Xth Std.
    6. If there is still a tie, all such candidates will be given the same rank and the final rank will be determined at the time of counselling based on graduation percentage.
